Makeup, to me, is a form of expression.Just as any other art form.
Just like painting a canvas on an easel.
You become the artist. You are the artist.
You have the power to create what ever you'd like.
The best part is that it's on your terms.
Just like a painter, you have the power to control what you create.
What ever is on your mind, it doesn't matter.
Just paint your picture.
The common misconception of makeup is that it is to aid in the attempt of transforming into someone else, in efforts to run away or forget who you are. This couldn't be further from the truth, in my opinion. Think of it this way: if you were given the opportunity to create something truly unique and beautiful, and all that you were given were some brushes, paint, powder, and pencils...what would you do? If it meant that some part of your soul was set free...what would you do? If it meant that for that moment, you are allowed to be yourself...what would you do? Would you seize the opportunity?
Makeup, to me, is art. Just like music. Growing up, I had dreams of becoming a professional singer, songwriter, and a poet. Although those things can possibly still happen for me (never say never), life happened, and it took me down another path. Once I discovered makeup and what it can do, it turned into my "music". And just like singing, makeup has become the form of art that I want to share with others. Whether it be giving small tips to my friends, family, coworkers, and people that I meet; or giving someone an opportunity to feel beautiful on an average Wednesday or for a special occasion. I want to share my love and passion for art and creativity with others.
Makeup could never replace music in my heart, but I've made room for it. In fact, makeup brought me back to music. It brought me back to myself. And when I feel the old me begin to creep up, I put on my music and sing along while I sit in front of the mirror and allow creativity to flourish.
