Monthly Favorites | July 2014

Hey boo!

For the first time ever, I've decided to share my monthly favorites with you. Normally, I reuse a lot of the same products over and over again, so that's why I don't post these kinds of things. Once I fall in love with a product or company, it's hard for me to move on to something new. I know, I know... us beauty junkies don't do that since we are always in the stores swatching, testing, and buying new things. Buuuuut if I love something, I will kiss it, hug it, squeeze it, and love it until I find something better.

This month is somewhat special for me, though. I've started to really get into makeup artistry and practicing on myself and my friends. I've also been watching a lot of instructional videos on techniques for doing someone else's makeup instead of watching the normal eye look tutorials from my favorite beauty youtubers. I think that becoming a freelance makeup artist is a lot closer than I think it is, and that makes me so happy and excited for the future! Who knows... maybe you'll see me on tv or my work on the big screen one day! Or maybe just on your computer filming videos on YouTube. That would be enough for me!

Anyway... on to my beauty favorites for this month! Sorry for the photo quality in advance. I broke my camera a few weeks ago, so my phone is stepping up to the plate for now!

Monthly Beauty Favorites | July 2014

 L'Oreal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Line
$3.99/each at Target
Girls... I swear, my hair is SO ridiculous in the summer months. I can't get it to do anything that I want and need it to do. No matter what kind of shampoo, conditioner, oil, hair spray, leave-in treatment I use, it does what it wants. Especially when I step outside. Even if I take it to the salon for a blow out or to straighten it with a flat iron, it's still frizzy, kind of crinkly (wavy-curly), and dented. Meaning half of my hair from the root to the middle is perfectly fine, and the middle to the ends just start doing weird things. I know that this is all because the ends are damaged from me bleaching it a while back. But sheesh!!! Work with me, girl!

Just when I thought all was lost, I was walking through Target one day this month and a big red sign caught my attention and led me to L'Oreal's Advanced Hairstyle line for $3.99. I heard about this line on YouTube a few months back, but was never really interested. I figured, "what the hell?" and picked up the "Curve It: Curl Taming Cream" and "Curve It: Elastic Curl Mousse". Needless to say, I haven't found anything as inexpensive to bring out my natural curls and keep them from getting frizzy and nasty. If you're interested in these products, I suggest using them when your hair is wet or damp and using a diffuser or air dry. It's amazing, I promise!

After falling in love, I went back to Target to pick up the "Sleek It" products as well. I picked up the "Iron Straight Heat Spray", "Strand Smoother Serum-Spray", and "Frizz Vanisher Cream". Ladies!!! I swear this stuff is amazing. I used the frizz cream all over wet hair and a little bit of the heat spray before blow drying. Then, used the serum-spray to tame the frizz after flat ironing. I even use it at the ends every few days, just run my fingers through it, and voila, no more frizz.

Keep in mind that these products only last for a day or up to 3 days. That's okay for me, though, because I wash my hair every 2-4 days, anyway. Give it a shot! Really great products and super inexpensive. I'll be going back soon to find more things to try from this line.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz - Ebony
$21.00 at Ulta
I know that this little pencil has been around for quite some time now, but I can't get over how great it is!!! It's got everything I need: retractable pencil and spooly. I carry it around with me in my purse with my Anastasia Clear Brow Gel. This little pencil gives me the kind of brow that I'm looking for. Since my brows are pretty full, I wanted something subtle that can help shape the "tail" of my brows and fill in the sparse areas. I do have brow powders and gels from Anastasia and other companies, but this is what I keep reaching for because it works best for me.
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara
Mini Mascara & Lip Injection Set - $15.00 at Sephora
Full Size - $23.00 at Sephora

Girls... If there is one mascara that every woman should have, it's this one. It is the BEST mascara I have ever tried, by far! I'm a huge mascara girl and I have so many in my drawer, but this is the only mascara that does everything that all of them can do. It lengthens, gives volume, and darkens your lashes. You won't need falsies anymore, I promise. It's extremely dark and pigmented and the brush helps separate and fatten up the lashes. When I am asked what I recommend for a higher-end mascara, this is always the answer. It's a little pricey, yes. I'm running out of it and dreading the day that I have to go and pick it up, but I know that I will get my money's worth from it.
Are you a part of Ulta rewards? I know they're having a 20% sale going on right now (at least for the next two days). If you're interested, go and get it with the discount!!! Take advantage of those coupons, discounts, and points, ladies!
***Update: I was able to go online and purchase a full size and a travel size Better Than Sex Mascara from Ulta for $23!! Check it out!***
Urban Decay's Electric Palette
$49.00 at Sephora
I had been lusting after this palette for a while, but had no intention on buying it unless I had some extra money to spend. I fell in love with the bright colors, pigmentation, and blendability. However, the price just sent me for a loop and I couldn't bring myself to purchase it. Fortunately, I was able to get my hands on it as a gift from a sweetheart as a surprise. *He got major brownie points for this, ladies* Lately, I've been reaching for this palette more and more. Not only for my own looks, but for looks that I do on other people. I never really talk about Urban Decay shadows, but I realize that I use them more than I use any other eye shadows (besides my Lorac Pro Palette). To be honest, I didn't think that I would have as much use for it as I do. I recommend giving it a try if you have the money for it. I have another palette with similar colors, but it doesn't hold a candle to it. Super fun palette with great pigmentation and blendability. :)
NYX Butter Gloss
$4.99 at Ulta, Target, or CVS
The NYX Butter Gloss' are amazing, ladies. So creamy, smooth, and they smell like cake! The pigmentation on these babies is great too. Almost every time that I'm in Target, Ulta, or CVS, I check the NYX isle to see if I need to stock up on anymore Butter Glosses. I have plenty of lip glosses but none of them really compare to these at the moment. Although I have much more of these in my collection, Cherry Cheese Cake, Apple Strudel, Éclair, Crème Brulee, and Sugar Cookie have been in the rotation in my purse all month long; from bright orange to coral to nude to bright pink. If you haven't tried these out, please do so! You won't be sorry. :)
Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35 in Light
Sample Size - $19.50 at Sephora (Avaiable HERE)
Full Size - $39.00 at Sephora
IT Cosmetics Your Skin but Better CC+ Cream SPF 50+ in Light
$38.00 at Ulta

Miraculously, this month has been a little-to-no foundation month for me. I've been letting my skin breathe most days because of the heat and oil that builds from it. And let's be honest, who wants a really heavy foundation on their skin when they're out sweating and tanning at the beach or hanging out on those hot and sticky summer nights? So, as a result, I've been either going bare-face or using something to give a little coverage, help hydrate and nourish my skin, while giving me protection from the sun. BB and CC creams are perfect for this!
Most of the time, I apply these with a damp sponge or beauty blender because a brush doesn't quite blend in these kinds of creams the way I'd like. I normally don't like applying face products (besides skincare) with my fingers, so the sponges work for me. The Smashbox BB Cream gives light coverage, but it's buildable. The It Cosmetics CC Cream gives medium to full coverage and gets rid of most of the redness from acne and rosacea. That's okay for me right now because I want more of a natural look to my makeup during the day. Even though I have a ton in my collection, these two are the only shades that somewhat match my skin at the moment. I'm in between shades right now. My tan is fading but I'm not quite back to the color I was in the winter. Since I'm between shades, if the color comes out a little too light, some bronzer darkens it up for me.
Well, there you have it. My current monthly beauty favorites for July.
I know you're about sick of me rambling in this post, anyway.
Let me know if you want any in-depth reviews of any of the products mentioned!

I've truly missed doing this, loves. It brings me such joy to blog again.

Until we talk again ladies...
